The Edmonton Highway Maintenance Division currently provides maintenance services to Alberta Transportation on the Northwest Anthony Henday Drive in Edmonton. This section of the Anthony Henday Ring Road includes 231 lane kms of 4 and 6 lane urban high speed freeway, eight interchanges, five flyovers and two rail crossings for a total of 27 bridge structures. Crews dedicated to maintaining these roadways work out of the shop located in NW Edmonton. Operations, based on 24/7/365 manpower coverage, include snow and ice control, (plowing, sanding and salting) summer grass, drainage and weed control, surface repairs, bridge maintenance, overhead lighting and traffic signals, line painting and maintenance of signs, guardrails and traffic accommodation at accident sites.

The Area Manager provides strong leadership, manages contracts/agreements by utilizing an experienced team of industry leaders, with a focus on developing our employees to build a reputation as the leader in our industry.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Uses best practices to acquire, allocate, manage and maintain the human, financial, and capital resources of the company.
Designs and maintains the infrastructure and organization for efficient and effective work and self-management. Encourages new initiatives, process improvement, and cost reductions. Analyzes the operations and provides direction in the implementation of new ideas.
Builds and maintains business relationships and partnerships. Monitors industry trends for business opportunities, determines target markets and interacts with customers and potential customers to increase market awareness, grow the business, negotiate contracts/partnerships, solve problems and solicit feedback. Develops trust and respect in the marketplace by being known as a good honest contractor.
Responsible for overall work quality. Develops and implements processes and measures to track, monitor, and maintain work quality and contract/partnership commitments.
Determines financial margins/pricing of tender jobs and which jobs will be bid based upon company strategy and workload.
Participating in the review and response to nonconformance reports, corrective action reports, and preventive action reports. Assisting with the necessary actions required to prevent recurrence of the nonconformance.
Implementing action to protect the environment.
Annually reviewing Quality and Environmental impacts and aspects, and related processes.
Providing resources to adequately eliminate or control potential impacts and providing resources for preparedness and response to emergencies.
Ensures awareness of, and compliance with, all Quality and Environmental documentation by themselves and their direct reports.
Foster collaboration across departments to build a community of expertise focused on knowledge sharing and capability building.
Liaison with Human Resources department to inform personnel of communications, decisions, policies and all matters that affect their performance, attitudes and results.
- CET designation or equivalent.
- Minimum 10 years of road maintenance experience.
- Courses in financial management and accounting considered an asset.
- Minimum 5 to 10 years’ of managerial/leadership experience.
